Most people think about implementing a new system, platform or application and that they can just plug it in and it will work immediately and fit right into their business. But it never works that way, especially with any kind of customization or alignment to internal processes or legacy systems.
Case in point: One of our clients just went live with a CRM system after starting the project nearly 3 years ago. They made the assumption that they could turn it on and it would work right out of the box, and of course thought that their Sales process would just align to the CRM tool.
About a year into this project they then realized that they needed to customize the system and align it to their business and existing systems. This pause in the implementation allowed them to think about their organization and what it needed instead of re-configuring their organization to make the CRM work.
