In the past I when would say to a client, "We need to look holistically at people, process, and technology," they would respond, "No, we just have to fix this tool."
And I would say, "No, we really need to look at people, process, and technology."
Now when I say that to a client, they absolutely agree. I think companies are starting to gain more maturity in that holistic view.
Ultimately, we may only need to fix one of those things, but I get much less resistance these days when I say, "Let's just do a quick look at people skills." Or, "Let's do a quick check in with your people and see if the process matches the technology, or the technology matches the process."
Clients are now much more willing to look at the holistic view. - Alex
