One of our most challenging projects was with a manufacturing client. The facilities group was faced with multiple conflicting priorities: Increase capacity, double their resources, implement a compliance and safety program for a new facility while cross-training existing resources all within a three month timeframe.
This presented an interesting challenge from a consulting perspective; create parallel workstreams and a structure and plan to support it while also supporting the needs of an organization experiencing significant change and growth.
There were tactical and strategic challenges. The tactical challenges were less of an issue and more a matter of juggling multiple workstreams.
The strategic challenges were the tough part. We had to create a sound strategy with clear milestones that aligned to the immediate and long term goals while management and existing resources were heavily involved in the tactical aspects. Maintaining the vision and supporting the organization through the change had to be just as important as doing the work.
